It was bound to happen. I was so disciplined about everything else while wearing braces that I was sure keeping up with a retainer would be a piece of cake. I was wrong.
The problem was that I had forgot the case at home. When we went to lunch I thought I could just wrap it in a napkin and put it aside. Ironically when I received the retainer the instructions cautioned against this very thing! But I was disciplined and just knew there was no way I was going to inadvertently forget it.
We hadn't drove too far away from the restaurant when it finally hit me. I screamed, "My retainer!". My husband turned the car around and got stuck at every single red light. Thoughts of my retainer laying beneath layers of trash or crush in the hands of an unknowing busboy filled my mind. I worried about shelling out money I didn't have to replace the them. I called the restaurant from my phone hoping they had not cleaned the table yet. To my surprise the waitress said, "You're looking for that teeth tray like Invisalign? We knew what to do as soon as we saw it. It's here". Relieved, I showered her with praise. Thank goodness! Lesson learned.
